Thymol reaction in rheumatoid arthritis.

چکیده
As demonstrated by various investigators (Carter and Maclagan, 1946; Stillerman, 1948; Poulsen, 1949; Kalbak, 1951), the thymol reaction is positive in rheumatoid arthritis patients at a somewhat advanced and active stage of the disease. This positive reaction is assumed to be due to changes in the serum proteins. Patients with rheumatoid arthritis generally show marked changes in the serum proteins in the form of increased total protein, hypo-albuminaemia, and increase in a globulin and, especially, y globulin. These shifts in the serum proteins follow rather closely the curve of the erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and also to some extent, the variations in the clinical state of the patient. When rheumatoid arthritis is being treated with cortisone or ACTH decisive changes take place in the serum proteins. The hypoproteinaemia subsides, and the albumin/globulin ratio becomes normal. In keeping with the theory that the positive thymol test is due to pathological

Investigating the effects of Thymol on animal model of Rheumatoid Arthritis
BBackground & Objectives: Nowadays, attention to natural products with therapeutic potential has been increased. This study was carried out to investigate the effect of Thymol on the animal model of Rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Materials & Methods: RA was induced by injection of complete Freund's adjuvant into the footpad of Wistar rats. Then, rats were allocated in 3 groups: treated with Thymol ...
متن کاملThe Effect of Rocker Shoe on the Ground Reaction Force Parameters in Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis
Objectives: Foot and ankle problems are common complications in rheumatoid arthritis disease. Gait pattern such as normal foot and ankle rocker is impaired in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Rocker sole as an external shoe modification is commonly prescribed in this pathology. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of rocker shoe on vertical ground reaction force parameters dur...

Background: The relationship between rheumatoid arthritis and poor oral hygiene has longbeen proven. Colonization of Porphyromonas gingivalis in the oral cavity can play an important role in rheumatoid arthritis. The aim of this study was to determine whether there is a relationship between rheumatoid arthritis disease and the presence of P. gingivalis. <stro...
متن کاملSkin inflammatory reactions to capsaicin in rheumatoid arthritis patients compared to healthy controls
Objective: Previous studies have examined the role of sensory nerves and neural mediators in symmetrical joint inflammation and autoimmunity in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In this study, we sought to examine the association between capsaicin skin test and disease activity in RA patients. Materials and Methods: Eighty RA patients (case group) and 20 healthy volunteers were enrolled in this experi...

Early Synovectomy is advisable for rheumatoid arthritis. An autologus vaccine from the excised synovia can be prepared from the tis- sues and given to the patient for at least 2 years or even longer in order to arrest the disease and for prevent relapse. The patient can be taught to give himself his own vaccine two times weekly. While there is possibility of an antianaphylactic reaction. F...
